Mangalore, Aug 4: Former district BJP president Monappa Bhandary, who was recently elected as a member of state legislative council, was felicitated at a programme organized by Bar Association Mangalore here on Saturday August 4. He filled the post left vacant after the demise of Dr V S Acharya.
Acknowledging the honour, Bhandary, who was also the former president of Bar Association, Mangalore, said that he would respond to any issue connected to advocates.
Stating that politics should not enter a lawyer's profession, he urged the advocates to be united and herald a new chapter in bar association by fighting for their rights.
The irregularities in junior advocates’ stipend will be addressed, he said. "Stipend has not been paid to junior advocates on a regular basis, and stipend of years 2008 and 2009 are still pending. To sort out this issue, I will speak to the law minister," Bhandary said.
Bar Association Mangalore president S P Changappa welcomed the gathering, and urged Monappa Bhandary to discuss the issues concerning advocates in the state assembly.
Ganesh Shenoy, Vittal Rai, Lavanya Shetty among others were present.
