New Delhi, Jul 25 (IANS): Holding tricolours and raising anti-government slogans, supporters of Team Anna gathered at Jantar Mantar in the national capital Wednesday for an indefinite fast against corruption and in support of a stringent Jan Lokpal bill.
As Pranab Mukherjee was sworn-in as the country's 13th president, hundreds of people, including school children and retired government officials, assembled at Jantar Mantar to pledge their support for Anna Hazare and his cause.
A huge marquee has been put up at the venue and the podium area, where Team Anna members would be protesting.
Brushing aside concerns over his poor health, Hazare Tuesday announced that he would join the fast from July 29 if the government failed to take immediate steps to check corruption in high places.
"We are waiting for Anna to arrive here. We will always support him," said 62-year-old businessman Jagtar Singh, holding a poster of Hazare in his hand.
Team Anna volunteers said they were expecting massive crowds.
India Against Corruption (IAC) volunteers have divided themselves into various teams like crowd management, sanitation, health, media and guest management team and Anshankari team, said IAC media coordinator Aswathi Muralidharan.
Team Anna has got permission to fast at Jantar Mantar till Aug 8, the day the monsoon session of parliament is expected to begin.
