Bangalore, Jul 20: A new state-of-the-art cancer centre is coming up at St John’s Medical College Hospital. The centre was recently in the news when the brand new linear accelerator was blessed by the Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore and governing council chairman.
The gathering was welcomed by Fr Lawrence D’Souza, director of St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences. He shared the background of the relationship between St John’s and Leslie Fernandes who has donated generously, enabling the procurement of the linear accelerator.
The linear accelerator was donated by Leslie Fernandes in memory of his late wife, Cynthia Fernandes, who succumbed to cancer a few years ago. Fittingly, to him was bestowed the honor of formally inaugurating the linear accelerator facility.
This was followed by solemn prayers, and the blessing of the facility by Archbishop Dr Moras, who thanked Leslie Fernandes for his generosity towards treating poor cancer patients.
Leslie Fernandes was felicitated on the occasion by Fr Glen Mascarenhas, associate director – finance, of St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences.Friends and family members of Leslie and Late Cynthia Fernandes graced the occasion.
This comprehensive facility will further enhance the role of St John’s Medical College Hospital as a provider of high-quality, affordable medical care and fulfill Leslie Fernandes wish to honor his wife’s memory in a befitting way. Sharing the profound gratitude of the management to Leslie Fernandes, Fr Lawrence D’Souza mentioned that the institution has taken a decisive step to have its own dedicated institute of Oncology and expressed hope that this generosity would inspire many more to show their goodwill to the institution in similar ways.
