Bangalore, Jul 17 : The ruling BJP received a jolt, though an expected one, on Tuesday July 17 noon, when one of its most sincere legislative assembly members Halady Srinivas Shetty from Kundapur constituency resigned from his MLA seat. He submitted the resignation to assembly Speaker Bopaiah.
The speciality of his resignation was that he took none of his supporters or well-wishers when going to submit his resignation to the Speaker. He confirmed that his resignation was accepted. He will be surrendering his MLA identity card, and receiving the 'Ex-MLA' card from the department concerned.
Several BJP leaders tried to coax him not to resign, but he stuck to his stand as he was humiliated by being denied ministry at the last moment, despite rosy promises from top leaders.
Interestingly, Kallada Prabhakar Bhat, who was blamed for the entire episode, had called him over the phone and had a lengthy conversation to stop him from resigning.
While confirming the call from Bhat, Halady did not disclose the details of their conversation. "I have certain ethics and principles, and I have decided to resign. I am honouring the sentiments of my supporters," he said.
When asked why he had come to resign all alone, he said, "I came to this world alone, I am going from this world alone...so there's no need for any fancy show in submitting resignation...I went alone."
"I do not take any step in a hurry, I will discuss with my supporters and decide about the future," he said.
