Kundapur: Poor Infrastructure Compels Villagers to Boycott Gram Panchayat

Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapur (VM)

Kundapur, Jul 11: The villagers boycotted the Tallur gram panchayat in Kundapur on Monday July 9. Inspite of pleading gram panchayat for past ten years to solve their problems, the panchayat did not show any interest to people’s woes.

The people owning five cents plot at Pinganigudde demanded the reason for stopping water supply from past two days. The officials replied saying that as per the panchayat president’s order, each house has to pay Rs 3000 to the panchayat and acquire the pipeline connection with their own expenses. Angered by this, as many as 150 villagers laid a siege in front of the panchayat.

Gram panchayat officials nor the members showed any interest with the villagers problems. Whenever people stepped into panchayat with their problems, they only received a rude response and they had to return with unsolved issues.

Speaking on the issue Raghu Poojary, Tallur panchayat president filed a complaint at the Kundapur police station stating that the Pinganigudde natives stood as a barrier in performing his duties and they make use of abusive languages.

The villagers questioned the officials asking them for help in their difficult times. The panchayat is meant to help the villagers in times of need.
