Mangalore: Athlete Sahana Kumari Honoured by Alma Mater Ahead of Olympics

Mangalore, Jul 9: Athlete Sahana Kumari, who was selected for the London Olympics visited Sri Gokarnanatha College in the city, along with her husband Nagaraj and daughter Pavana. She is a former student of this college.

She was a given a grand welcome by the college administaration. A formal stage programme was also held to felicitate her.

Adressing the gathering, Sahana expressed her pride in her alma mater. She also urged the others to rise up to higher levels.

Sahana Kumari has been selected in the high jump event, where, in the qualifying round, she scaled a new height of 1.92 metres.

Born and brought up in Ullal, she completed her early education from Anandashram School, Ullal and later joined Sri Gokarnanatheshwara College, which proved to be the right choice to pursue her sporting dreams. Sri Gokarnanatha College has been the home for many young, dynamic and successful athletes. Her brother and her elder sister are also successful sportspersons.

Dr B Gangadhar, principal, Gokarnanatheshwara College, Shama N Rao, P U College principal, Jayavikram, correspondent, Tejomaya, member, administrative committee, Vasantha Karandoor, lawyer, and Purushottham Poojary, PD, were present on the dais.
