Mangalore, Jul 6: The government of India and Medical Council of India (MCI) has granted permission to start MCh plastic surgery super-speciality course at A J Institute of Medical Sciences.
This is the first ever DM/MCh super-speciality course being started in the city. Adding to it, this is the only plastic surgery department in the coastal region to start MCh course other than Bangalore and Belgaum.
DM/MCh is the highest degree awarded in medical education after completing post graduation in MD/MS. The course period is three years and A J Medical College will be admitting one student annually.
The plastic surgery department headed by Dr Dinesh Kadam of the A J is well known in the country and has been performing micro vascular, reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries. It also holds free plastic surgery camps in remote places to treat cleft and palate children in association with Smile Train, New York.
