Udupi Jul 4: Dr Ramachandra Bairy (District Health Officer) said that one of the major issues in the city is malnutrition among children especially. 371 children up to the age of 6 are suffering from this condition and about 280 kids are suffering from lack of nutritious food. A privision will be made soon so that children who are suffering from malnutrition will be supplied with milk and eggs in the district
Children also suffer due to other health ailments as a cause of under-nourishment. Apt treatment will be provided to such kids by expert physicians.
As far as the community is concerned, nine children belonging to Koraga and 13 belong to Kudubi. The department will extend the check-ups to other children in the district which include aganwadi kids, said DHO.
From July 8 to 9, children will be mobilized at anganavadis with the help of ANM, Anganwadi workers and ASHA members. From July 11 to 15, individual house visits will be conducted to trace the number of malnutrition cases he added.
Rita Martha (Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director) said 17,000 children are excluded under health check up because of many reasons.
