New Delhi, Jul 4 (IANS): Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram Wednesday termed as "scandalous" the Bharatiya Janata Party's allegation that Pranab Mukherjee's resignation letter to the Indian Statistical Institute was fabricated and said the UPA's presidential nominee had taken note of it.
"It is a scandalous suggestion. Pranab Mukherjee has taken note of it," Chidambaram told reporters.
Reacting to the BJP's statement Tuesday that it wanted to take the matter to the court, the home minister said "no one can stop anyone from going to the court".
On Tuesday, Mukherjee survived his rival P. Sangma's attempt to get him out of the race by alleging he was holding an office of profit at the Kolkata based ISI.
The returning officer rejected the claim of Sangma, who is backed by the BJP.
