Mangalore, Jul 3: The first project of the year at Lourdes Central School - “Healthy Tiffin” started with a bang. Lourdites from the primary division from class 1 to 5 welcomed principal Fr Ferdinand with rain claps followed by a welcome address from Tushar Shivam of Class 5A. The programme was anchored by Vailusha of Class 5B.
In the introductory speech, Fr Ferdinand stressed on the importance of eating home-made food to grow strong both mentally and physically. Fr Ferdinand enlightened the minds of the children regarding the wastage of food. Students were enthralled with various cartoon clippings and songs on healthy tiffin which gave them information on healthy eating, healthy food, and healthy tiffin.
A reality show was also shown to highlight the importance of using steel tiffin.
Pertaining to this project, various competitions were also conducted. To name a few ,class 1, 2 and 3 had sharing the healthy food competition, class 4 had to illicit information on healthy tiffin and decorate the corridors with enriching information. Class 5 had house-wise sandwich making competition. The primary teachers were also seen competing with each other in preparing dishes with puffed rice which otherwise is known as ‘churmuri’. All the primary students and teachers participated sportingly in the competitions. During breaks, principal paid friendly visits to the primary classes and interacted with the students. He advised the students to eat healthy food and inculcate the value of sharing excess food with the poor brethren. In conclusion, the first project on healthy tiffin has left a positive impression not only on the students but also the staff and parents.
The finale was graced by the manager Dr Victor Machado who has always been a guiding light. Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, Principal LCS, the strong pillar for the students and staff and the resource person Dr Vanessa Mascarenhas a renowned pediatrician from Fr Muller Hospital addressed the students, the parents and answered their queries. Students were thrilled to receive prize from the dignitaries. The programme wound up with the vote of thanks proposed by Kate Pereira of Class 5B.
