Mangalore: Lourdes School Conducts 'Write 'n Recite' Competition

Media Release

Mangalore, Jul 2: Poetry is an intricate articulation that translates sublime thoughts and universal ideas by the employment of versatile decorum in style and economy of words. True poetry is appareled with celestial light. It encompasses a wider range of human elements and elementary passions: tragedy, yearnings and fancy, love and emotions.

The Lourdites had a wonderful opportunity to step into Shakespeare’s shoes. Lourdites of Class 6 to Class 12 were given various topics class-wise, to compose their own poems in forty minutes time allotted.

The best four with great poetic flair from each class were selected to recite their poems. With the guidance of their respective language teachers, they were trained to modulate their voices with good intonation and diction.

On June 29, the selected students recited their poems in the school auditorium. Glen Thomas of Class X delivered the welcome address. He introduced the esteemed judges: Jenifer, Smitha M and Rajini Lobo who have diverse interests in poetry and fine arts. Glen Thomas also welcomed Fr Victor Machado, the Manager of Lourdes Central School and Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, Principal of Lourdes Central School. Fr Victor Machado said that a poet is born and an orator is made. Rev. Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves congratulated the selected students and ardently hoped that the Lourdites would become the future poets of our country. Ms Vidya Joseph was in- charge of the programme.

The topics that were assigned to different Class were:

Class             Topics
6                 Education
7                 Fairy Tales
8                Freedom and Liberty
9                Environment
10              Patriotism

The competition was held from 8:30 to 10:15 in the morning for Class 9 to Class 12 and from 10:30 am to   12:00 noon for Class 6 to Class 8. Mehul of Class 10 delivered the vote of thanks.
