Mangalore, Jun 30: About 248 children of St Sebastian School, Bendur brightened up as they received books, uniform, sandals and umbrellas from the School Betterment Committee consisting of alumni.
Sr Lillis, vice- president of the Bethany Educational Society presided over the function. She appreciated the members of the School Betterment Committee for their good will, generosity and keen interest in the education of the poor children and wished the management, staff and students success in the cause of education.
Dr Maben in his speech reminisced his happy days and appreciated the encouragement that he received from the sisters and the teachers. He called up on the children to work hard for the future as many people are making sacrifices for them.
St Sebastian Kannada Medium Higher Primary School Bendur, founded by the Servant of God Raymond Francis Camillus Mascarenhas, 103 years ago, aims at imparting education to the neglected and poor strata of the society.
Keeping the vision of the founder in mind, the School Betterment Committee every year, at the commencement of the new academic year provide the students with a uniform, books, sandals and umbrellas. The parents of these school children are mostly that of labour class.
