Udupi: Dr Vinod V Thomas Appointed Director of MIT

A professor in the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Dr Vinod V Thomas has been appointed as director of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal University. Dr Vinod joined as a faculty in the department after obtaining a B.E. degree in 1983 from MIT, which was then affiliated to the University of Mysore.

 

 

Prior to his appointment as Director, he was Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from October 2005 to October 2008; Associate Director (Academics) from October 2008 to December 2011; Associate Director (Development) from January to April 2012 and Joint Director from April to June 2012.
 
Dr Vinod obtained an M.Tech and a PhD from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in 1989 and 2003 respectively.   His research interests are in the area of electrical machines, power electronics and drives.
 
He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from MIT Manipal in 2008 and was recognized for his noble service for 25 years by Manipal University in 2009. He is a senior member of IEEE and also belongs to the Fellow of Institution of Engineers.
