Udupi, Jun 28: After a thorough investigation, police claimed that they strongly suspect that people known to Shakuntala were involved in her murder in Kemmanu here.
Shakanthala was found strangled in her house on Monday June 25. The murder was discovered by her daughter when she came back from school.
According to Shakuntala’s son’s statement, the murderers have taken a chain and two mobile handsets from her vanity bag. A case has been registered at Udupi police station.
Hearing of the tragedy, Ashok, Shakuntala’s husband, came down from Muscat. Two months ago, he had come down for the house warming of his newly-built house in Gundya. Earlier, they were residing in Heroori.
The murderers strangled Shakuntala to death with her own shawl. The rickshaw that came home, a juice sachet, and two glasses found at the place indicate that the murder has been committed by some known person. The post-mortem report says that the woman might have suffered a lot when she was strangled with her own shawl. The reason behind the murder has not been determined and there is need to wait for the investigation details.
Shakuntala, on Monday June 25 morning had been to Kalyanpur bank. Sources say that she changed her cell phone number on her way back home. Around 1.30 pm, a person is said to have arrived at her house in a rickshaw. The person is said to have closely associated with Shakuntala.
The changing of Shakuntala’s number and the person who came in the rickshaw are the deciding factors for investigation.
