Panaji, Jun 28 (IBNS): Bowing to the pressure from parents and teachers, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has revised Class IX and XI National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks for Hindi subject from the ongoing academic year.
Difficulty to understand “heavy influences” of north India’s most recognized Bhojpuri and Maithili languages in the syllabus led to the changes.
“Goan students were finding it difficult to understand the north Indian syllabus. The teachers are also not well versed in the new languages. It could have affected students’ performances if we had not to revise the syllabus,” a Board official told reporters.
The education department was under severe pressure from the teachers and parents who demanded amendment of the chapters.
An editorial board of senior Hindi teachers and experts was formed earlier this year to make the changes.
