Mangalore, Jun 27 : The Bishop of Mangalore, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza has appointed Fr Pius James D’Souza OCD as the new Episcopal Vicar for the Religious in the Diocese of Mangalore.
With the transfer of Fr Ronnie Prabhu , to Bangalore, the office of the Episcopal Vicar for the Religious in the Diocese of Mangalore had fallen vacant. Now Fr Pius has been given this office. As Episcopal Vicar, Fr Pius will be a representative of the Bishop to all the Religious of the Diocese and his task is to guide the Religious entrusted to his care, fostering their services within the Diocese.
Fr Pius James D’Souza is a Carmelite priest hailing from Agrar (now Farla) parish. Having completed his Masters degree in Philosophy in the Karnataka University, Dharwad, he acquired his Masters in English Literature from the Mysore University. Later he was sent to Rome for biblical studies. He has a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome and his PhD in Biblical Theology from the Gregorian University Rome. Presently, he is the Superior of the Carmelites at St Joseph’s Monastery – Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore and also teaches Sacred Scripture in many Seminaries, including St Joseph’s Seminary at Jeppu, Mangalore.
