On entering the premises of Blue Chip, the suspicious movement of a driver near a standing Tata 407 alarmed the officials and on inspecting the vehicle, they found several gunny bags of plastic carry bag packets neatly stacked. On inspection, they found the thickness of the carry bags to be less than 20 micron.
On interrogating the worker incharge of the unit, he admitted that the lorry was the property of the plastic manufacturing unit and said that the neatly packed carry bags were scraps and were to be recycled. When asked to produce the bill, he was not able to produce it nor did he give any convincing answer.
When the worker did not co-operate with the officers the vehicle along with the driver was escorted to Panambur police station. There the driver of the vehicle changed the statement and said the vehicle and the goods belonged to him and the goods had been floated from Bombay to Mangalore for recycling and that he was transporting the same to recyclers. When asked about the purchase receipt or about the industries to which it was moved to, he gave evasive answer. MCC Officials later levied a penalty of Rs 1,000 and seized the goods.
The goods will be handed over to Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, andfurther investigation will be done by the officials of KSPCB. This raid once again proves the unabated manufacturing and circulation of prohibited plastic carry bags within Mangalore even after series of raids by MCC officials.
