Pranab Mukherjee visits Belur Math, prays

Kolkata, June 24 (IBNS):  Union Finance Minister and UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee visited Belur Math, the headquarters of  the Ramkrishna Mission, on Sunday, and offered prayer besides meeting the senior monks of the order.

The minister was in West Bengal in the past two days and was visiting his ancestral home at Birbhum Saturday.

He is likely to resign from the post of finance minister any day now and contest the Presidential polls scheduled for July 19.

Mukherjee met the president of Ramakrishna Mission and Ramakrishna Math Swami Atmasthananda. He also visited the main temple and the room where Swami Vivekananda used to stay here.

He once again urged all the political groups who are still undecided about whom to support in the presidential poll to back his candidature.

"I am urging those who have not made up their mind yet to support me as the UPA candidate."

He said he required he would talk to Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and seek her support for her candidature though Trinamool has ruled out supporting the Congress trouble shooter.

His rival in the presidential race P A Sangma has already attacked him saying Mukherjee was responsible for the financial mess in the country individually and is being backed by a huge corporate lobby.
