Mangalore, Jun 24: Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy organized a felicitation programme to honor the Konkani excelling students here at the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy office in the City Corporation on Saturday June 23.
Legislative Assembly deputy speaker N Yogish Bhat inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp and honored the students who topped. As many as 60 students had appeared for the exams.
Speaking on the occasion, Yogish Bhat said that the students effort to score a higher percentage in the exams is appreciable. Most students came out with flying colors. He also praised the Konkani Academy for raising interest of the Konkani language. Yogish Bhat along with other dignitaries have submitted a memorandum to the chief minister stating a requirement of a separate auditorium for the Konkani Sahithya Academy, which is planned to be set up in the Bondel area.
Konkani Sahithya Academy recently distributed books to more than 20000 students in various schools as a part of its two-day Konkani Sahithya Rath programme which was a huge success. This was a step to encourage the usage of Konkani Language to next generation.
Ashok Shet welcomed the gathering, Rajaram Nayak compered the programme and Dr BS Devdas Pai, the registrar delivered the vote of thanks.
Kasargod Chinna (president of konkani sahitya academy), Roy Castelino, Fr Francis Rodrigues (Rakno editor), Manohar Prasad, Rajendra Shet, were among others were present on the occasion.
