Bangalore, Jun 23: The Karnataka State Board of Wakfs has urged Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda to release additional Rs 6.5 crore to pay salaries of employees as per the sixth pay commission.
The Chief Minister chaired a meeting with members of Board and discussed various issues.
Wakf Board Chairman R Abdul Reyaz Khan, who spoke to reporters after the meeting with the Chief Minister, said the Board required Rs 9 crore a year to pay salaries of its employees. But the Government had released only Rs 2.5 crore.
The Board urged the Government to release the additional amount at the earliest to ensure timely payment of salaries to the staff.
Khan said the State Government has surveyed wakf 18,000 properties in the State so far and another 20,000 properties need to be surveyed.
The Chief Minister has been urged to instruct Deputy Commissioners and tahsildars to conduct surveys and take steps to recover encroached lands belonged to the Board, he said.
