Udupi, Jun 20: The incessant rains that have been lashing across the district caused flash floods along National Highway 66 on Tuesday June 19, chiefly due to ongoing four-lane conversion work.

The properties acquired by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) after awarding compensation to the respective house owners, have not been vacated so far, posing setbacks to four-lane conversion work and this has resulted in flash floods in low-lying areas along the highway.

The disrupted work on some stretch of the national highway and pot-holed roads are causing traffic bottlenecks and nightmares for motorists, especially due to the private express buses that ply at high speeds disregarding traffic rules and speed limits in order to maintain their schedule.

The slippery roads and reckless driving have caused several accidents since the onset of monsoons in coastal district.
