Panaji, June 19 (IBNS) Sesa Football Academy (SFA), a 14-year-old unit fostering local football talent, on Tuesday launched its second academy ‘Sesa Academy School’ at Sirsaim in the north Goa.
On its first day, the school inducted 28 boys in the under-14 category to pursue a two year practical and theoretical training.
P K Mukherjee Managing Director, Sesa Goa said the boys will have an opportunity to participate in the tournaments organized under the aegis of Goa Football Academy and other recognized clubs.
“During this period, the trainees will be provided transportation facilities. They will also be covered under personal accident schemes among other benefits,” Mukherjee told reporters after the launch.
Among 93 students who have passed out from the academy’s first school at Sanquelim have represented India internationally while others are pursuing their football career with major clubs.
Adil Khan, alumni of the academy was felicitated with Rs 1 lakh cheque for representing India as a part of the Indian National Team in the AFC Challenger Cup.
“The academies identifies’ talented youngsters passionate about football and inducts them in the residential program at the academy. Over a period of four years, our trainers train them as professional footballers and well disciplined citizens,” Mukherjee said in his concluding speech.
