Guwahati, June 19 (IBNS): At least six people, including a child, were killed in the first wave floods in Assam, officials said on Tuesday.
Assam government officials said over 60 thousand family of 13 out of 27 districts were affected in the flood.
In Barpeta district, at least four people, including a child, were killed in the flood at Bhella area on Monday.
“Four members of a family lost their lives when they accidentally fell into a deep pond submerged by floodwaters,” an
official of Barpeta district said.
The deceased were identified as Rita Begum, Halida Begum, Rahima Begum and her child Madhan Begum.
In another incident, body of class VI student Jyoti Kalita,who was washed away by floodwaters, was recovered on Monday in Barpeta district.
On June 17, a 9-year-old girl Manisha Das was washed away by floodwaters at Nagaon area in the district.
Over 100 villages in the district are submerged by floodwaters.
The flood situation continues to remain grim at Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Morigaon, Golaghat districts and few areas in Barak valley.
The floodwaters damaged crop in over thousand hectares across the state.
In Kaziranga National Park, floodwaters submerged over 35 percent areas in the park.
“We have taken away safety measures for the animals in the flood,” a park official said.
