Bangalore, Jun 8: Campaigning for elections to six Seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council going to polls on Sunday, June 10, from three each graduates and teachers constituencies’ ended on Friday evening.
Polling will be held on Sunday form 8 am to 4 pm and counting will be held on June 13.
A total of 38 candidates are in the fray from graduates constituency and 23 candidates in teachers constituencies.
Prominent leaders such as Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy, former Minister Ramachandra Gowda, and Capt Ganesh Karnik, all sitting members of ruling BJP, are in the fray.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S Suranjana said 15 candidates are in the fray for the North-East Graduates constituency.
Amarnath Patil of BJP, Kadadi Sharanabasappa of JD(S) and Shivananda S Bhimalli of the Congress are in the fray. BJP’s Manohar Maski, who represented the constituency, is not contesting the elections.
Seven candidates are in the fray for the South-West Graduates’ constituency.
S P Dinesh of Congress, S L Bhojegowda of JD(S) and Shankaramurthy of the BJP are fighting the battle. Currently, Shankaramurthy is representing the constituency.
Ramachandra Gowda of BJP is contesting from Bangalore Graduates constituency.
There are 16 candidates in the fray. A Deve Gowda of JD(S), Ramoji Gowda of Congress and K S Lakshmi of CPI(M) are the other prominent candidates in the fray.
Nine candidates are in the fray for the South-East Teachers’ constituency.
Sitting member Y A Narayana Swamy of BJP, R Chowda Reddy of JD(S) and K B Ramalingappa of Congress are the other prominent candidates in the fray. Y A Narayana Swamy had won the elections last time.
Capt Ganesh Karnik of BJP is facing seven candidates in the South-West Teachers’ constituency. C M Panchaksharaiah of JD(S) and Hosur Ramesh Joyappa of the Congress have entered the electoral battle.
Marithibbegowda of JD(S), Gurunanjaiah S M of BJP and M Lakshmana of Congress are in the fray in South Teachers constituency. Currently, Marithibbegowda of JD(S) represented the constituency.
