Mangalore, Jun 1: Progressive organizations protested against the deputy commissioner, commissioner, the saffron outfits and the police department in front of the DC office here on Friday June 1. Nearly 8 to 10 organizations took part in the protest.
Addressing the protestors, PUCL president P B D’Sa said that saffron outfits were violent and alleged that the DC and the commissioner had taken part in their programme draping saffron shawls. "Almost all the police have joined hands with saffron outfits," he alleged.
"The DK police website and police stations are controlled by the Bajrang Dal youths. It is better for the officers to resign and make those youths officers," he said. Speaking on the issue of throwing cow dung on Mangalore University professor Pattabhirama Somayaji, D’Sa said that PUCL had requested the commissioner to arrest the accused immediately, but the commissioner was not taking any action against him.
On the issue of ex-inspector Prakash of Mangalore rural police station facing allegations, D'Sa said that an enquiry is being carried out, but ACP Mutturaya is stating that Prakash was innocent in this case. The State Human Rights Commision has charged Prakash with a fine of Rs 75,000. "It is a internal game of the police to save themselves from any allegations," he said.
"People are losing trust in the police and the DC and the commissioner have to be changed soon because if they continue to remain in their posts, it would be difficult for the normal people to live a peaceful life," he said.
Suresh Bhat said that he was shocked to see the RSS pictures on a page in the DK police website recently. Ali Hassan openly questioned the officials as to how normal people could lead a happy life if these sort of things happen in society. He also hoped that the government would do the needful and that their protest would bring positive results.
