Greece Announces Euro 2012 Squad


Athens, May 30 (IANS): Many players from the domestic league were called up as Greece announced the squad for the Euro 2012.

Five players from Greek champions Olympiakos, four from PAOK and three from Panathinaikos were named into the squad, which won the 2004 Euro.

Greece will train in Austria this week and will play Armenia Thursday in a friendly, reported Xinhua.

They are in Group A with co-hosts Poland, the Czech Republic and Russia.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Costas Chalkias (PAOK), Michalis Sifakis (Aris), Alexandros Tzorvas (Palermo)

Defenders: Vasilis Torosidis (Olympiakos), Avraam Papadopoulos (Olympiakos), Kyriakos Papadopoulos (Schalke), Stelios Malezas (PAOK), Jose Holebas (Olympiakos), Giorgos Tzavellas (Monaco), Sokratis Papastathopoulos (Werder Bremen)

Midfielders: Grigoris Makos (AEK), Giannis Maniatis (Olympiakos), Kostas Katsouranis (Panathinaikos), Giorgos Karagounis (Panathinaikos), Giorgos Fotakis (PAOK), Kostas Fortounis (Kaiserslautern), Sotiris Ninis (Panathinaikos), Giannis Fetfatzidis (Olympiakos)
