Udupi, May 19: Ashok Kamath, education officer Udupi, is proud that the district is first in SSLC Examination in 2012. The education system in the district has great potential with a well developed network of schools and dedicated staff. There has been constant improvement in the growth of the percentage of students passing each year, added education officer, Kamath.
All the schools in the district are affiliated to any of the following three boards for secondary and higher secondary board of examinations: Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board, Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi and Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi.
These days, various other means of imparting knowledge has been introduced in the educational system. The DDPI had conducted various programmes from June onwards to review the various methods implemented in the educational field. There have also been seminars for head masters of all schools to identify the weak students who need special attention or special classes.
During the first week of January, there was a workshop for analyzing exam papers of mid terms so that proper guide line could be formed for the students. Around 30-35 education officers were sent to different schools all over the district to find out the progress of academic workshops.
From all the schools, 50 Students were brought together to give a complete training in all subjects in the workshop. Out of 50, 48 students passed with good marks, said Kamath.
In order to prepare the students for the exams, two preparatory tests were given to student. There were also weekly camps organized by Barathiya Vikas test to enhance the knowledge of students.
Karnataka Social Welfare department had programmes to help the back forward class students. The BEO provided question banks called - Pariksha Spoorthy and Pariksha Prerna at a lower price for all the students.
The local media, Spandhana channel, also played its part in the overall success of the students by broadcasting 22 live calls in programmes with specialists on each subject so that children could get additional information. The 'U channel' had a chat show with doctors and physiatrists to keep the student mentally fit. All these helped the students to perform better in the SSLC examination, said Kamath.
