Bangalore, May 18: Former BJP Minister Ramachandra Gowda and sititng MLC Y A Narayanaswmay filed their nomination papers to contest elections for Karnataka Legislative Council from Bangalore Graduates and South West Teachers constituencies respectively on Friday.
Ramachandra Gowda was Medical Education Minister in the B S Yeddyurappa cabinet and had to resign following complaints against alleged corruption in the department.
He was subsequently appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board, which enjoys Cabinet minister’s rank and perks.
Gowda tendered his resignation to the post of Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board before filing his papers at the office of the Regional Commissioner, BMTC complex, Shantinagar in the city.
The last date for filing nominations is May 23 and last date for withdrawal is May 26.
The polls will be held on June 10 and counting will take place on June 13.
The elections are being conducted as the term of six members of the Legislative Council from these constituencies will expire on June 21.
