Mangalore, May 18: In a broad day light, chain snatcher was caught by the public red handed as he was trying to flick the jewel of a lady here in Mooru Kayi, Harkur on Thursday, May 18.
The thief is identified as Rajendra Ganiga (38) of Neral Katte of Karkunje.
Vanajakshi shetty, resident of Narkali was coming from her husband’s house in Nadroli with the small baby in hand. When the duo reached Harkoor cross, here in the bus stand, Rajendra acted as if he was speaking over the phone and followed her.
When he realized there is no body in the place, he forcefully pulled the gold Mangalsoothra from her neck and pushed her on the roads.
Reportedly, when the surrounding people heard the woman screaming for help, shop owner Arun Shetty, Rajesh Poojary and Babu Poojary rushed to her rescue. Soon, the youth of the place gathered and caught hold of the thief.
The thief was accused of loitering around this place for sometimes by the villagers. During the investigation, he revealed that he was collecting money for his aunt’s wedding. The case is registered in Gangoli police station.
