Beltangady: Thieves Decamp With Rs 5 Lac Worth of Jewellery, Cash from Temple

Beltangady, May 15:
Thieves targeted a temple located in Naravi in the limits of Venoor police station, near here, on the night of Monday May 14.
 
The thieves looted Suryanarayan Temple on Monday night.  They decamped with 5 kgs of silver, 37 gm of gold chains and Rs 78,000 that belonged to the temple priest who had gone home after locking the temple at about 11.30 pm on Monday.  The estimated cost of the valuables is around Rs 5 lac.


 
The police found a pair of hand gloves, a currency note of Rs 500, and a few coins, a few yards from the temple.  The thieves tried to break open the safe and abandoned it.
 
Venoor police registered a case on the basis of a complaint lodged by the temple managing trustee Vasant Bhat.
 
Circle inspector Bhaskar Rai and Venoor sub inspector Umesh Uppalike paid a visit to the spot and investigations are under way.
