Mangalore: CM Rules Out Opening New Engineering Colleges

Mangalore, May 12: Chief minister Sadananda Gowda has said that this year no new engineering colleges will be opened and funds will be utilized on improving faculty, basic needs, and research centers.

He spoke after inaugurating three-day state-level project exhibition and competition for engineering students ‘Srishti 2012’ held at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management on Saturday May 12. This exhibition organized by ABVP Karnataka invited students from all the engineering colleges in the state.
 
Speaking further, the CM said that there were 11 engineering colleges and 43 polytechnic colleges started by the government, and hence, focus will be on improving the conditions in existing institutions. Gowda said that the polytechnic colleges will be upgraded and made engineering colleges. About ‘Srishti 2012’, he said that innovative ideas are nurtured through this platform and the initiative of ABVP is praiseworthy. About the demand for opening research centers in all the colleges, he said that plans are on.















































Party different, heart is one: In a remark about Manjunath Bhandary, president, Bhandary Foundation, the CM said that though Bhandary is a follower of a different party, the heart acts as one whenever Bhandary communicates with him as they speak about social issues, ignoring political differences.
 
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and TCS centre head E S Chakravarthy were the chief guests. N Ravikumar, zonal organizing secretary, ABVP, was the main speaker. Manjunath Bhandary, president, Bhandary Foundation, presided. Sudhir P Ghate, president, reception committee, welcomed. Dr U M Bhushi, principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, was also present.
 
Earlier, after landing at Mary Hill helipad, the CM, speaking to reporters, said that if the need arises legislature meeting could be convened after taking guidance from BJP national president Nithin Gadkari. About the SC’s order for a CBI probe into former CM B S Yeddyurappa, Gowda said that the law will take its own course. However, he stated that as in the case of High Court verdict where allegations against former CM were squashed, same developments may take place with CBI enquiry. He also said that cabinet expansion will take place soon.

    Engineering colleges have mushroomed in every nook and corner of Karnataka. Majority of them lack good faculty. Those in rural areas beg for students as nobody is ready to join them due to various reasons. Last year alone some 28000 engg. seats went vacant in this state. Also only 50% of those who pass out get reasonable job offers others have no choice but to take what they get, such is the state of affairs. In this context the CM has taken the right decision to concentrate on improving the quality rather than giving permission for more colleges!!!

    There are lot Engg colleges started through out Karnataka and particularly in undivided DK/UDUPI.The scenarios are look like degree colleges and need to keep it's value and dignity by the management as well as Govt.
