Mangalore, May 11: They say a black cat crossing your path is a sign of bad luck. If this particular accident that took place near Kudupu here is anything to go by, the black cat might well be replaced by a green snake!
The accident occured between a jeep and an express bus near Kudupu here on Friday May 11 at around 4.15 pm.
A Karnataka state government jeep (KA 19 G 43) belonging to Laxmi, assistant commissioner, religious endowment department, was on its way towards the Mangalore.
The driver of the jeep overtook an express bus 'Reshma' (KA 19 C 6704), plying between Mangalore and Karkala via Moodbidri, near Kudupu garage. As soon as he overtook, he noticed a green snake crossing the road and applied sudden brakes. The bus driver behind the jeep lost control and hit the jeep.
Both the bus and jeep were badly damages, but miraculously, all the four persons in the jeep escaped with no injuries.
The bus driver told daijiworld that he could not avoid the accident as there were big ditches on the either side of the road. The bus was also crowded, and hence a major tragedy was averted.
Both the vehicles are now in the possession of the Mangalore rural police. A case is yet to be registered, but it would be interesting to see who would be the guilty party - the bus driver who could not help it, or the jeep driver who only wanted to save the snake!
Meanwhile, the snake crossed the road merrily, oblivious to the almost disaster it had caused!
