Udupi, May 11: Zilla Panchayath (ZP) and Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation(KFDC) together granted cheques to the beneficiaries, today at DC office, Manipal. .
Katapadi Shankar Poojari and K Ragupathi Bhat(MLA) distributed cheques to the beneficiaries. The government granted money as per the requirements of fishermen. Rs 30,000 were given for the use of three wheelers and Padi Dhone and Rs 35, 000 for four wheelers. Under small scale scheme fishermen were provided with the fishing net worth Rs 5,000.
This year government put forward up to 4 lakh for vehicles, 3 lakh for small scale works and 2.80 lakh for security equipments. In total, many fishermen were given the cheque of Rs 20,000 to 25,000. This venture was possible and successful because of the help of the Fisheries Development Corporation, said Katapadi Shankar Poojari.
The government is also looking to various important issues related to the fishermen so that the developmental works and new projects can include new technologies in this field like GPS navigator, life saving appliances and fishing equipment for the fishermen
The government of Karnataka has also formed a group named, Masthya Mahila Swavalambhana Yojana for the uplift of the fisherwomen. The government has sanctioned Rs 5,000.00 for each group of fisherwomen which includes 10 members of a Swasahaya Sangha. The total amount sanctioned for Swasahaya Sangha is Rs 50,000.00.
The housing subsidy for fishermen has been raised from Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000. In all, 400 families of fishermen will be benefited by this policy.The function was inaugurated by Katapadi Shankar Poojari , president of Zilla Panchayath Udupi.

Ragupathi Bhat(MLA) Udupi district, Jyothi Seetharam Shetty(vice president Zilla Panchayath) , Devadas Hebbar(present Udupi Taluk Panchayath) Upendra Nayak (president social welfare) Mallika Devakumar, Yashpal Suvarna ( President Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation) were present during the programme.
