Udupi, May 9: An organization for the welfare of Catholic women will be inaugurated on May 11 at the Don Bosco Hall, Mother of Sorrows Church here at 10 am.
This was announced at a press meet held by Leena Roche, president, Veronica Saldanha, secretary, Sandhya Dais and Irene Pereira vice-president of district Catholic women's organization.
"In Udupi district, Catholic women's organizations will have 12 branches in Shirva, 9 in Udupi, Kallianpur will have 8, and Kundapur and Karkala will have eleven branches each," she said.
"The reason behind starting these many branches is to reach out to the needy women, and aim of the organization is to create social awareness about women’s issues and issues related to gender equality, peace and development," she added.
The unit was attached to the diocese of Mangalore, but henceforth it will be a separate entity.
