Mangalore, May 3: Due to the shutdown of operations in Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), the supply of automobile LPG cylinders has been affected across the city since Tuesday May 2.
A long queue of rickshaws was seen in the bunks waiting for the gas cylinders. The supply of auto gas is available only in a few places like Society Petrol Bunk, Balmatta, Go Gas Bendoorwell, and one near Nagori, Capitanio.
MRPL had to shut down its units following reduction in water supply from Netravati river. An order had been passed to stop the supply of water to MRPL as the city was ridden under severe water crisis.
Ashok Kumar Shetty, president of Janatha Auto Rickshaw Sarige Sangha said that the shortage of auto gas in the city has put the rickshaw drivers in a fix.
"Even though we have been struggling to get cylinders, the officers concerned are not responding to our pleas. In some of the petrol bunks the gas is given only for a few and routine customers," he said.
