Sensex Gains 53.09 Points in Special Trade


Mumbai, Apr 28 (IANS): A benchmark index for Indian equities markets in a special trading session Saturday gained 53.09 points to close at 17,187.34 points.

The trading from 11.15 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. in the futures and options segment was conducted to implement a system upgradation.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,134.19 points, closed at 17,187.34 points, up 0.31 percent or 53.09 points from its previous close at 17,134.25 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 17,212.36 points and low of 17,125.88 points in the trade. The BSE midcap rose by 31.53 points and smallcap grew by 28.28 points.

The wide-based 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was up 0.35 percent or 18.40 points at 5,209 points.

Prominent Sensex gainers were: Sterlite Inds, up 2.16 percent at Rs.106.30, Maruti Suzuki, up 1.29 percent at Rs.1,397.10, Bajaj Auto, up 1.04 percent at Rs.1,599.05, ICICI Bank, up 0.95 at Rs.868.90 and Jindal Steel, up 0.92 percent at Rs.486.10

Major Sensex losers included: Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), down 0.03 percent at Rs.739.90; TCS, down 0.21 percent at Rs.1,202.95; Bharti Airtel, down 0.20 percent at Rs.307; Larsen and Toubro (L&T), down 0.11 percent at Rs.1,220.05 and Coal India, down 0.06 percent Rs.351.15.

All BSE sectoral indices closed in positive with banking, metal and auto gaining substantially.
