New Delhi, Apr 24 (IANS): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Tuesday pitched for Vice President Hamid Ansari for the post of Indian president.
"Vice President Ansari should be made the president," Lalu Prasad told reporters outside parliament.
"(A.P.J. Abdul) Kalam has been president once, so the vice president should now be the president," he said.
Former president Kalam's name has featured prominently in the presidential race after some political parties pitched for an apolitical candidate for the post.
The government has meanwhile said it will try to develop a consensus, adding that it was premature to name anyone.
