New Delhi, Apr 19 (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday decided to nominate party senior leader S.S. Ahluwalia for the forthcoming biennial election to the Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand.
The decision was taken by BJP president Nitin Gadkari on the basis of a recommendation by the party's Jharkhand state election committee.
The Election Commission had last month annulled the process of Rajya Sabha polls in Jharkhand in the wake of allegations of horse trading and seizure of over Rs.2 crore in cash.
The Commission had said that the process for Rajya Sabha election from Jharkhand had been seriously vitiated.
The BJP had welcomed the Election Commission decision.
Ahluwalia had held the position of deputy leader of the BJP in the Rajya Sabha and his not getting a party berth in the nominations for the upper house last month had caused surprise within and outside the party.
