Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)
Udupi, Apr 17: Two policemen, who were allegedly involved with peddling of brown sugar in the district, are underground since the last several months. The police department, which has succeeded in finding out the whereabouts of a number of thugs and thieves on the run, has miserably failed in finding out their own colleagues.
The case relates to bringing of brown sugar from Bangalore to Malpe, and then transporting it to Manipal on November 4, 2011 by an auto rickshaw. Four persons, Satosh from Hassan, Mohammed Irfan from Hiriyadka, Karkada Pramod Poojary from near Saligrama in Udupi district, and Sukumar from Barkur, were arrested then by the Coast Guard personnel.
The accused were handed over to Manipal police station along with a kilogram of brown sugar, a car valued at five lac rupees, six packets of currency notes of Rs 1,000 denomination, a mobile phone, and an auto rickshaw.
One of the accused also has absconded in the case. Ganesh, working in Hiriyadka police station and Phalaksha from a police station in Hassan district, have succeeded in hoodwinking the police department so far. Both of them had been suspended from
service last November.
As there is not much progress in police investigation in the case, a month back, it was handed over to Corps of Detectives. The COD too has failed to nab the missing colleagues in spite of best efforts.
