Copenhagen, Apr 14 (IANS): Former World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the semi-finals of the Copenhagen WTA tournament after beating Alice Cornet of France 6-0, 6-3 in the quarter-finals.
Top-seed Wozniacki showed her class as she hardly gave Cornet a chance to get a foothold in the match held at the Farum Arena here Friday.
The first set was over in 26 minutes and things did not change much in the second set. However, Cornet challenged the current number six in the world in several well played duels but could not prevent the Dane from winning 6-3.
It was a little more difficult for third seeded Jelana Jancovic of Serbia in her match against Estonia's Kaia Kanepi. Jankovic lost the first set 4-6 but came back and won the next two sets 6-1, 6-3, Xinhua reported.
No. 2 seed Angelique Kerber of Germany had even greater difficulties in the fight against her compatriot Mona Barthel. After winning the first set 6-2, Kerber lost the second set 0-6, but fought her way back in the third set to win 7-5.
Wozniacki will now meet Petra Martic in the semi-final after the Croatian beat Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia 6- 4, 4-6, 6-3.
