Mangalore, Apr 12: A major tragedy was averted at a petrol bunk in Ujjodi, thanks to the presence of mind of the staff.
A tanker (KA 05 AB 1285) which was plying from Mangalore to Thokkottu developed some problems when it reached Ujjodi. Flames and smoke began emanating from the tanker.
However, instead of going to a garage, the negligent driver of the tanker took his vehicle to a petrol bunk to park it there.
He told the petrol bunk staff that the tyre of the tanker had caught fire, and was about to reverse his vehicle and park inside the petrol station.
But the staff, on realizing the danger posed by the flames, which could have sparked off an explosion at the petrol bunk, immediately stopped the driver and rushed with fire extinguishers to put off the flames.
After much effort, they managed to douse the flames and thus averted a major tragedy. The tanker was then sent on its way.
