Udupi: IOB Chennai Emerge Champions in National Volleyball Tournament

Udupi, Apr 10: Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) Chennai team bagged the first prize of Rs 1,00,001 by defeating Southern Railway (SR) Chennai in the finals of national volleyball tournament held on Monday April 9.

SR Chennai secured the second prize of Rs 77,777.  Karnataka Police secured the third prize of Rs 55,555 and HSIDC Haryana secured the fourth prize of Rs 33,333.

Donors Chandrahas Shetty Yermal, Arunakar Shetty Kalattur, David D’Souza and Lokesh Shetty Belapuguttu distributed the cash prizes.

Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Jayaprakash Rai, Sudhakar Shetty, Annamalai, Yellur temple managing trustee Y Prafulla Shetty, manager Raghavendra Rao, and Tulunadu folk art scholar K L Kundantaya were the chief guests on the occasion.

Yellur Yuvak Mandal golden jubilee committee convener Yashawant Shetty and president Deepak Y were also present.

International power lifter Akshata Poojary and volleyball player Annamalai were felicitated during the programme.

Over 5,000 spectators were present at the floodlit national volleyball tournament that was organized by Yeelur Yuvak Mandal to commemorate their golden jubilee celebrations.

    Once again thanks to Daijiworld for covering the event. Congratulations to Yelluru Yuvaka Mandala and its members for organising such a fantastic sports event. The credit goes to Mr. Yashawant Shetty who with his team put all their efforts in organising the tournament. In fact it was his brainchild to celebrate the Golden anniversary of the Yuvaka Mandala as we now a days find very few of the Yuvaka Mandalas are live and functioning.Also thanks to all the donors of the prize money.
