Udupi, Apr 7: A gang of six including an auto rickshaw driver looted two students near Mannapalla, Manipal here on the night of Thursday April 6 at around 9.45 pm.
Out of the six, apart from the auto drivers, three were co-passengers and two others were at Mannapalla where the driver took the students as his passengers to rob them.
Shamik Pushkar from Jamhedpur, who stays at the MIT hostel, registered a case.
The incident took place when he along with his friend Ankith Chaudhary hired an auto rickshaw to go to Kamath Circle from MIT restaurant. When they boarded the rickshaw three people were already in it. The auto driver took a turn towards Mannapalla where two others were already waiting.
The six people along with the rickshaw driver attacked them and looted their valuables, including their college ID card, two mobile phones worth Rs 10,000 and ATM cards. The miscreants elicitated the ATM pincodes from them using threat, and withdrew money from their accounts, complained the students.
Manipal police have registered a case.
Police are trying to gather information about the rickshaw and the miscreants. Manipal inspector Sadananda Tipanna said that investigation will be done and action will be taken very soon.
