Mangalore: Fear of Science Exam Leads SSLC Student to Suicide

Mangalore, Apr 4: In a tragic incident reported on Wednesday April 4, a 16-year-old student pursuing his SSLC education in St Joseph High School allegedly committed suicide in his room. His body was found hanging from the ceiling fan by a saree.
Ranjith, a resident of Jayanagara near Jalligudde and second son of Raghava Poojary and Jayanthi, is said to have taken this extreme step fearing the forthcoming science paper on Thursday April 5. He closed the door and hanged himself, it is said.
Apart from Ranjith, the couple have two other sons, elder son Rakshith and the youngest Karthik.
He was found hanging at around 11.30 am, according Kankanady rural police. The tiles of the roof had to be removed to enter Ranjith's room. The body has been shifted to Wenlock hospital.
Ranjith is said to have left a death note wherein he expressed his fear of facing the Science paper. He instructed that his last rites be done by his aunt's 4-year-old son Kripala. He has also mentioned the names of his friends in school and wished them all success. Also he advised his younger brother Karthik to study well. He sought forgiveness for his action from his parents.
It is learnt that before committing suicide he had gone to a nearby 'Nagabana' to pray.
Kankanady rural police have registered a case.
