Panaji, Apr 2:
The translated Konkani version of noted Indian social worker and author Sudha Murty's book 'How I taught my grandmother to read and other stories' was released at the hands of noted poet Madhav Borker. Translation of this book in Konkani language was done by Sunetra Jog.

The event which was held at Archives Department, Goa State Museum, Patto, here, was attended by noted writers and linguist. Well known writer Vishram Gupte, Prof Priyadarshini Tadkodkar, Goa University Konkani department head and publisher Sushant Naik along with Sunetra Jog were present on the dais.

Sunetra Jog, who is by profession, a telecom officer said that she was impressed with the Sudha Murty’s book. She decided to translate it so that Goans get to read it in Konkani. The book is a compilation of more than 20 stories.

Many among present for the function said that this is proud moment for Konkani language that literature of Sudha Murty’s is translated in same.

Madhav Borkar while touching the aspects of practical wisdom said that in olden time’s people had interest to learn, but they did not have the chance, and thus society faced heavy loss.

According to him those wanted to learn had no enough facilities to go to school and hence they had to deprive themselves from learning.

Borkar lamented saying now a day’s news paper gives most of their space to actor and actresses, which is sheer wastage of time. He also said that some of the Television shows which are now telecasted have no link with 'culture'. It is the media who should teach cultural lessons to today’s generation. Also rather than giving much space to actor and actresses it should be given to writers who can steer one’s life by their writings.

He also applauded Sunetra Jog for doing the translation of book very beautifully.

Vishram Gupte and Priyadarshani Tadkodkar also spoke on the occasion and congratulated Sunetra Jog.

Sushant Naik proposed the vote of thanks.
