Udupi, Mar 31: The city municipal corporation tabled the annual budget with a revenue surplus of Rs 81 lac on Saturday March 31. UCMC president Kiran Kumar presented the budget at Sathya Murthy Hall and was welcomed by the ruling party members while the opposition members lamented the budget terming it ‘old wine in a new bottle’.
With the intention of completing ongoing projects, no stress is given on any new projects. Projects like road, park, underground drainage, and late V S Acharya Memorial, among others have found place in the budget.
Details are as follows:
Administrative cost: Rs 789.50 lac for office maintenance, Rs 300 lac for road and drainage repair, Rs 900 lac for SFC, Rs 70 lac for street light maintenance, Rs 100 lac for new street lights, Rs 100 lac for water supply and pipeline repair; Rs 200 lac for solid waste management, Rs 35 lac for underground drainage, Rs 63 cr for road extension, Rs 10 lac for market, Rs 20 lac for garden and plantation maintenance, Rs 8 lac for poor welfare fund, and Rs 49 lac reserved for SFC project; Rs 2 lac for physically challeneged people’s welfare fund, Rs 30 lac for Rozgar project, Rs 25 lac for SC/ST community people, and Rs 157 lac for SFC fund.
Also, in the budget grants have been allotted for houses for the SC/ST community, electricity, construction of lavatories, and free LPG connections.
Chief minister’s medical health insurance scheme will be renewed as per the budget proposal.
Computerization of office administration, renovation of Town Hall, ‘Bhujanga’, park public toilets, new bus stand, mobile toilets, parking, and fish market are among other projects incorporated in the budget.
Also Manipal, Ambalapady, Adi Udupi, Korangrapady Udyavar NH ring road, Udyavara-Ambalapady, Adi Udupi road development, road development from Kalyanapura bridge to Swarna river bank has been proposed.
Vice-president Bharathi Chandrashekar and UCMC commissioner Gokuldas Nayak were present.
