Bangalore: DVS Urges More Women to Join Politics to Cleanse System

Bangalore, Mar 31: Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Saturday called upon more and more women to join politics and said the entry of womenfolk into politics would help in cleansing the system.
Addressing the Stare-level women’s convention – Nari Shakti Sangama – organized by the ruling BJP in Bangalore, on a day former Chief Minister and his supporters had organized a massive felicitation programme in Shimoga to mark the 70th Birthday of the Lingayat stalwart, Gowda warmly appreciated the support and contribution of women for the growth of BJP in the State and in different parts of the country.
The BJP Government hae formulated the Bhagyalakshmi scheme for welfare girl child and so far 12.4 lakh girls benefited from the scheme, he said.
The scheme would help the poor to become economically self-sufficient by imparting education till SSLC level.
A sum of Rs. 38,943 core has been set aside in the State budget for 2012-13 for welfare schemes of women, which would help to become economically self-reliant and gain confidence in life, the Chief Minister said.
Former Union minister and BJP national general secretary H N Ananth Kumar, MP, said the BJP will support the Women’s Reservation Bill if it was tabled in the Lok Sabha by the Congress-led UPA regime at the Centre.
He said the UPA Government was not keen to table in the Bill in the House fearing backlash in the elections. The BJP would not hesitate to support the Bill if it was tabled, he claimed.
The Bill to set aside 33 per cent of the seats in Parliament and State legislatures for women was passed by the Rajya Sabha in March 2010, but has been held up in the Lok Sabha amid stiff opposition from a few parties.
Kumar demanded a Joint Parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into Army Chief V K Singh’s controversial statement about bribery charges.
BJP national spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman, who inaugurated the convention, called upon the women members of the party to be prepare to face next Legislative Assembly polls
Appreciating several welfare schemes announced in the State budget presented by Chief Minister D V Sadananda GOwda, she said schemes would help upliftment of women belonged to social and economic disadvantaged groups.
State BJP Chief K S Eshwarappa, who presided over the convention, called upon party workers to sort out differences to defeat the opposition parties in the next elections.
