Mangalore, Mar 31: For the last few days Devi Nagar at Pachanady in Vamanjoor in bustling with activity as Devdas Kapikad and his “Telikeda Bolli” team is busy shooting for their Tulu film in full swing. The team comprising about 50 including hero and heroines of the film are busy shooting in and around the house of Veena and Vasantha. The excitement among the local populace is quite palpable and the curiosity of the people is heightened by seeing together the trio of Kapikad-Padil-Bolar after a long gap. Their coming together in one stage is considered as a lucky omen for the movie.
Devadas Kapikad and Director P H Vishwanath who were on the hunt for a locality comprising the home of a tailor, a school master and another neighboring house in close vicinity as demanded by the script, found a perfect destination here. Veena rolls beedi for a living and her husband Vasantha is a tailor by profession and the board bearing the name “New Bhoja Tailors” was just tailor-made for the team of Telikeda Bolli. When Kapikad and his team approached them seeking permission to shoot at their place they willingly agreed.
Veena, who is in her late 30’s, was seen quite busy taking care of her guests and making them comfortable at her house. “I consider it my good fortune that the team is shooting at my home. Tulu is our language, and it is a honour to provide whatever little help I could in the service of my mother tongue and our own people”, an ecstatic Veena blurted out.
March 30 was the last day of shooting at Panchanadi and the team moves to Vamanjoor March 31 to shoot at a school before packing up to their next destination - Siddakatte. Devdas Kapikad who was on the sets looked quite pleased at the progress of the shooting in these three days. He hopes to finish the shooting within 30 to 35 days and get the movie ready for release in coming June end or July. Talking about the location of the shooting Kapikad said Pachanady was chosen as the location was perfect for the scene they envisaged in the movie.
Devdas Kapikad was sitting at the tiny home of Veena after his lunch along with son Arjun, Navin Padil, Aravind Bolar and others when daijiworld team approached him to know his views on the progress of the movie. Quite characteristically he assures that Telikeda Bolli will be a comedy movie that will make people float in the waves of non-stop laughter. “I can guarantee that there will be non-stop entertainment which people generally expect from my plays. At the same time I have not forgotten to give them the moral along with entertainment, which I used to do even through my plays. At the end people will go home with this message in mind delivered to them in a subtle way”, he reveals.
In the house just opposite to Veena is the home of school master where heroine Ashritha Shetty and Vaishali Shetty are getting ready for their shoots. Ashritha, is quite tall and looks elegant in a long skirt and blouse (udda langa ravike). Both these Mumbai-bred girls speak chaste Tulu and get along quite well. Though both of them met for the first time on the sets at Pachanady they vibe well and find solace in each other amidst the local gang of comedians.
Ashritha Shetty, a IInd year degree student in Mumbai is not new to facing camera as she has modeled for a few products. She is the face of “clean and clear’ beauty cream and has modeled for Bombay Times and a few other products. Vaishali Shetty, a final semester Engineering student in Mumbai, is facing the camera for the first time but is quite camera friendly.
Though city-bred they are both used to the village atmosphere and are quite at home mingling with local stars of the movie. “We are shooting for only three days now but get along like a good family and since most of them are comedians we are having fun despite having a hectic schedule”, Vaishali says. Though Vaishali is undecided about a career in movie Ashritha is eying the Tamil film industry as she says she has been flooded with offers from Tollywood.
“Though I got offers my parents who hail from Shirva Manchekal and Niddodi wanted me to debut in Tulu language film, which is our mother tongue. So when this offer came on my way, I accepted it. I am doing this film for my community and as a pass time and I quite enjoy it. However, for a career I am focusing on Tamil film industry which has a much larger canvas”, she reasons.
Comedy king Navin Padil also expressed his happiness to work in this film with Devdas Kapikad. “We have a good director in Vishwanath and fantastic cameraman in Manju who do not compromise when it comes to quality. I can guarantee the film will go down well with people and will be successful”, Padil stated.
Devdas Kapikad expressed his gratitude to daijiworld.com for the good coverage given to his film and to the team. “After reading about the film in the website many people personally telephoned us from different corners of the world wishing us luck. Even the comments of some of our well-wishers for the article on the website has given us elephantine strength to go ahead with gusto”, Kapikad stated.
