Udupi, Mar 29: In a startling discovery, the body of a man was found in a completely decomposed state, almost turned to skeleton, at his residence at Santekatte, Kallianpur here on Tuesday March 27 evening.

The body has been identified as that of John Lewis, who died almost a month ago. The circumstances that led to his death are still a mystery.

The incident came to light when his aquaintance Francis D'Souza (70) paid a visit to John's house for casual meeting.

He found the front door of the house locked, with a cloth tied to the latch and its other end tied to a window grill. Foul smell emanated from inside the house, and Francis looked inside through the window. To his utter shock, he found the body lying on the floor.

Francis immediately informed local leader Lucas and also called John's friends and relatives whom he knew.

Udupi police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
