Mumbai, Mar 27: “Kannada is thriving in the metro, more than its native Karnataka, owing to which Kannadigas find it difficult to bid goodbye to the metro. Kannada will have a long future if Kannadigas settled in the metro encourage their children in the sustenance of Kannada culture. The literary–cultural convention that is being organized by the Karnataka Sangh indeed provides a stage for this,” said Nadoja Dr B A Sanadi.
Dr Sanadi was the chief guest speaking at the valedictory function of the 7th Kannada Literary–Cultural Convention organized under the aegis of Karnataka Sangh, Kannada and culture department, Bangalore, at Dr M Vishveshwarayya auditorium, Matunga (West), from Saturday March 24 to Sunday March 25.
Dr Narahalli Subramanya presided over the programme. Dr Sanjeev K Shetty, Umanagabhushan, and Dr B R Manjunath were conferred with the ‘Sadhana Shikara Prashasti’ in recognition of their literary and cultural contributions during the programme.
Manjunath, in recognition of the honour, said that retirement for Kannada enthusiasts is unjustified. “It’s an honour for Kannada if Kannadiga families converse in Kannada at home,” said Manjunath.
Dr Shetty said that one has to return the debt of society and humility always has its rewards.
Various literary seminars were held presided over by K S Bhagavan, Mysore, Dr Na Damodar Shetty, Mangalore, Dr Sridar Balagar, Kumta, and Dr Poovappa Kaniyoor, Sullia, on the occasion.
Karnataka Sangh president Dr G D Joshi welcomed the gathering. Honorary secretary Dr Bharat Kumar Polipu delivered the introductory address. Treasurer Omdas Kannangar compered the programme.
Yakshagana play ‘Bheeshma Vijaya’ was staged by Sacchidanand Saraswati Yakshagana troupe as part of the cultural programme.
